ETHNIC GAMES PLAYED BY KANKANA-EY CHILDREN
Vicente B. Antipaso, MSPE
September 1988
Abstract
The documentation of ethnic games played by the Kankana-ey was the aim of this study. The participants were four Mankayan old-timers and the students of the Mankayan High School and the Mankayan Central School at Mankayan, Benguet. The researchers gathered data by means of interviews and observations.
Ten games, namely: Alkadan, Bangbangan, Dama, Gaggating, Galgalo, Leyleyg, Nunuangan, Pange-et, Sinikadan and Tinnudok were documented on film (photographs). Each game was described according to it's history, number of players, age and sex of players, setting, equipment, pre-game preparations and the game rules.
The researchers recommend that further documentation be don by video taping: a comparative study be made with the other Kankaya-ey tribes in Bakun and Bugias; and a more comprehensive research be conducted to trace the origin of each of these Kankaya-ey games.
